Located on beautiful surroundings, Dinhata is the municipal city of Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. This city has been counted among the most visited tourist attractions of the state as it has been adorned with several ancient religious places. Dinhata is located around 25 km towards south from the district headquarters - Cooch Behar and almost 481 km from the capital of the state - Kolkata. This place is bordered with several other cities such as Gauripur, Alipurduar and Mathabhanga city. Geography of Dinhata

Dinhata is located at the latitude of 26.13°N and longitude of 89.47°E. The city has an average elevation of 36 meters or 118 feet. The maximum temperature here is 42 ° C during the summer season (in May-June) while the minimum temperature stays around 19° C in January month. Dinhata enjoys large amount of precipitation during the months of July-August. So the best time to visit at Dinhata is considered from October to March. The travelers can book their holidays at this place in between these months.

Demography of Dinhata

According to the 2011 Census of India, Dinhata has a total population of 36,124 in which the numbers of males are 18,344 and females are 17,780. Besides that, the overall population of children between the age group of 0-6 is 2845 i.e. around 7.88% of the whole population of the city. The Schedule Caste (SC) people constitute 14.51% while the Schedule Tribe (ST) people complete 0.28% of the total population of the city. Dinhata has the literacy average of 91.61% which is better than the state literacy average of 76.26 %. There are 94.53% literate males and 88.62% literate females in Dinhata.

The administration of Dinhata has three community development blocks - Dinhata I, Dinhata II and Dinhata III. All these three blocks have total number of 33 gram panchayats and a single censes town namely Bhangri Pratham Khanda. Dinhata I block has 16 gram panchayats in its rural zone and Bhangri Pratham Khanda as urban zone. Dinhata is its headquarters. Dinhata II block has 12 gram panchayats in its rural area with no urban zone within its area. Sahebganj is the headquarters of this second block. Both these zones come under the supervision of Dinhata Police Station. The responsibility of providing basic amenities in the town is owned by Dinhata Municipality.

Transport in Dinhata

Reaching Dinhata is very convenient for any travel vacationer. The town has its own railway station - Dinhatta Railway Station. It belongs to North Frontier Railway, Alipur Duar Junction and connects this city to many important places of West Bengal state. The trains like New Jalpaiguri Bamanhat Passenger and Bamanhat New Jalpaiguri Passenger are frequently running through this railway station. Tourist Attractions in Dinhata

Madan Mohan Temple:
It was constructed by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan between the years of 1885 and 1889. Located in the middle of Cooch Behal, this temple is comprised of three deities - Goddess Bhavani, Goddess Kali and Goddess Tara.

Kamteswari Temple:
This religious spot came into existence in the year 1665 when it was established by Maharaja Pran Narayan. Although, the original structure of the temple is destroyed now but the tourists enjoy the new temple here. The temple boasts of a throne for Devi.

Gosanimari Temple:
This temple also attracts many travel seekers with its beautiful design. Also famous as the Gosanimari Bandar, it was constructed in 17th century by the efforts of Maharaja Koch. The design of this temple belongs to Khyen Dynasty.

Baradeb Bari: This tourist attraction is situated in Cooch Behar and has lot of European influence. A large number of people come here especially during the occasion of Durga Puja or Saradutsav. It has an image of Goddess Durga.

Ardhanariswar Temple:
People come at this temple to worship the Shivling, which is almost 10 feet below the level of plinth. It also boasts of the statue of 'Ardhanariswar', which is carried around during the festivals of Dol Purnima and Madan Chaturdashi. People also enjoy here a huge pond in which there are numerous tortoises.
